Noted marine artist Wilma Parker is the recipient of the George Grey Award (COGAP, Salmagundi Club, New York City). Her paintings of the Sea and Sea Services include a large allegorical work Homecoming NAS Alameda commissioned by the Navy to commemorate base closure. The painting now hangs at Lamorre Airfield. Other works for the Navy include a commission to paint Launch of the Springfield to commemorate the commissioning of the LA Class submarine Springfield. A companion piece, Violet Sea was exhibited at the Nautilus Memorial, Groton, CT, as well as at the Lyman Allyn Museum, New London. A painting for the Coast Guard is in the permanent collection of the Naval Air Museum, Pensacola, FLA. Parker was included in the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museums inaugural exhibition, Looking at Earth. Parker’s work has hung in the rotunda of the House of Representatives. The artist was, for several years, Artist-in-Residence aboard the USS Hornet, now a museum ship.
A graduate of RISD and the Art Institute of Chicago, she is a member of the American Society of Marine Artists, Tailhook Association, Coast Guard Artist Program, Salmagundi Club, New York City. She is a trustee at Rhode Island School of Design. Some of her exhibits include:
